A new era has struck for women’s football in Africa, according to the development strategy for women’s football presented by CAF. So that women’s football finally receives all the light it needs, the Confederation of African Football has decided to put together, with the help of major stakeholders in football, a roadmap to serve as a guide to the discipline on all the continent.
The strategy, the ultimate objective of which is to build a strong identity around African women’s football, is based on five essential pillars:
- Marketing and promotion
- Professionalization and Leadership
- Social impact
One of the first measures of the strategy is the increase in the number of teams participating in the final tournament of the Women AFCON. From 8, it has now increased to 12 in the next edition.
Legends have already started to play the game of promoting strategy through videos. The current coaches and players are not to be outdone. The strategy will be implemented over four years (2020 – 2023) with an expected impact on the education of young girls and women.
The strategy is available to the 54 member associations so that it can be implemented at their national level with the support of the CAF Women’s Football Department.
