Genzebe Dibaba wins first place in 1500 m for the new stage of the World Indoor Tour in Madrid, Spain. The young Ethiopian prodigy Fantu Worku finishes second in 3000 m.
In the Dibaba family, the practice of athletics is a tradition. On Thursday night, the athletes reunited for Madrid Indoor Meeting. The fiesta was quite good especially because of a performance signed “Dibaba” that is always far from harmless. This time it was the turn of Genzebe Dibaba, the younger sister of Tirunesh to pick laurels. The Ethiopian finished first in the 1,500 meters ahead of Germany’s Konstanze Kloster-Halfen and Britain’s Eilish McGolgan.
Morocco’s Rabade Arafi and Siham Hilali finished in 4th and 6th place respectively, while Axumawit Embaye the other Ethiopian at the start of the race ranked 5th.
Fantu Worku, the 18-year-old Ethiopian prodigy, ended in second place in a 3,000-meter race won by Sweden’s Meraf Bahta. Meskerem Mamo (ETH) finished third.
