Among the decisions taken by the CAF executive committee on June 30, 2020, the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the CAF Awards is well justified. A decision that saddened those who hoped to see the successor to the Nigerian Asisat Oshoala, winner of the 2019 edition of the prestigious awards ceremony in the African Player of the Year category.
It’s not going to be Ajara or Gabrielle Aboudi’s year. Moreover, no Cameroonian player or of any other nationality can succeed Asisat Oshoala since CAF decided to cancel this 2020 edition due to the specific conditions in Africa and in the rest of the world.
As a direct consequence, the CAF Awards will not be back until 2021. Among men, the same observation can be made. Sadio Mane will not have a successor, who was aiming for a second straight trophy as the best African player.
